This month the magazine had planned to present a special issue about the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award, which marks its 34th anniversary in 2021. Yet while reviewing the many award-winning projects through the years, the editors were struck by architecture's wonder and power. In response to the global pandemic, they decided to turn their focus on celebrating the hope and encouragement that architecture provides. The issue covers all of the shortlisted works and jury proceedings for each edition of the award, and highlights eight works from the Mies Foundation's "Art Intervention" initiative at the Barcelona Pavilion.
